Spotlight On…Pablo Menéndez Alegria – Diagnostic Imager
18th October 2022
Pablo qualified from the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 2002 and thereafter completed postgraduate studies in Internal Medicine in Madrid. Pablo did a 3-month period of practising in Barcelona (Molins Veterinary Hospital), and 4 months in Lisbon (Hospital Veterinario Central), before taking on a full time position at the Molins Veterinary Hospital in Barcelona. Here he gained invaluable experience and enhanced his skills in diagnostic imaging and internal medicine. Pablo is a skilled imager with over 15 years of experience in ultrasonography, interventional ultrasound, CT and MRI, and as a clinician with an Internal Medicine interest, he is also skilled in endoscopy. Pablo is fascinated by all aspects of imaging but has a particular interest in portosystemic shunts, and brain MRI.
Pablo sees many interesting cases here at ChesterGates, not only from the out of hours and 1st opinion services, but also from internal medicine and neurology. One challenging case in particular was a 10-month-old male British Bulldog with pulmonic stenosis, diagnosed by our Cardiologist Matia Basili. Prior to cardiac intervention in which a “balloon valvuloplasty” procedure was performed, a vascular CT was required to rule out a coronary anomaly which can be potentially fatal during this planned procedure. Unfortunately, the CT scan confirmed a R2A coronary anomaly, preventing an interventional approach for this patient. Nevertheless, the CT scan allowed better clinical planning to this case, improving the post-surgical outcome. Eventually, the patient successfully underwent the non-invasive cardiac surgery, and was discharged after 24 hours in hospital with us.
