ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists, part of CVS Group, is delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Smith, BVetMed, GPCert(SAS), CertAVP(GSAS), DipECVS, MRCVS, as a Specialist in Small Animal Surgery.
Matthew joins the hospital’s growing team of referral clinicians, further enhancing its capacity to deliver advanced surgical care for pets across the Northwest of England.
Matthew is both an RCVS and EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery, bringing a wealth of experience in orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures. His appointment reflects ChesterGates’ commitment to providing exceptional standards of care and expanding access to specialist services for first opinion veterinary practices and their clients.
Matthew graduated from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in 2005 and began his career in mixed practice before focusing on small animal surgery. Over the following decade, he developed his surgical expertise in primary care practice, completing the ESVPS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2012 and the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (General Small Animal Surgery) in 2015. He achieved RCVS Advanced Practitioner status in 2016. In 2018, Matthew joined a northwest referral hospital to undertake a rigorous residency in small animal surgery, culminating in his recognition as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (DipECVS) in 2022.
Matthew’s arrival at ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists marks an exciting development for the hospital. He will accept referrals for both orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, supporting veterinary practices across the region. His ambition is to help expand ChesterGates’ surgical referral capacity, ensuring timely access to advanced procedures for pets in need.
