Following a period of 18 months in general practice he commenced training to become a specialist first completing an internship then residency at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals in June 2023. He currently holds an American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Diploma in Small Animal Internal Medicine (DipACVIM, SAIM) and is eligible for European and RCVS Specialist status.
Matt has a keen interest in all areas of veterinary internal medicine, as well as clinical research and veterinary professional concepts. He is excited to develop his interests in endocrinology, respiratory, haematologic and immunologic medicine whilst at ChesterGates. He has publications on veterinary endocrinology and has several current clinical projects including a soon to be submitted multicentre study on canine phaeochromocytoma. Outside of clinical work he is particularly interested in the psychology of decision making and how this may relate to wellbeing, professional development, and the education of both undergraduate and graduate veterinary surgeons. He will soon be completing training as a mental health first aider and aims to continue to develop his understanding of wellbeing through further psychotherapy qualifications in the long term.
Outside of work, Matt lives with his partner Sam and a lovely, albeit demanding, lurcher called Olive. He enjoys reading both fiction and non-fiction, playing sports and taking photos. You will often find him discussing philosophical and scientific ideas with anyone who is willing to talk!
