Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy

Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy

ChesterGates Rehabilitation Department is run by Laura Easton who is a Chartered Physiotherapist and Veterinary Physiotherapist which means she is member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT). Laura is supported by Natalie Steen who is a Registered Veterinary Nurse and a trained hydrotherapist.

Your pet will be able to take advantage of the extensive facilities under the direction of experienced and fully qualified professionals.

We offer the full range of rehabilitation from basic fittening for the agility dog to long term programmes of activity for the older arthritic pet.

Post-operative rehabilitation and care is a key part of the work for the team here alongside conservative management of joint and soft tissue problems.

Manual Therapy

Massage therapy and joint mobilisation play a bit part in rehabilitation.

They can be used as a warm up and a cool down before and after treatment or exercise. Massage helps increase circulation and can aid in healing of tissues; sensory stimulation from massage can help with neurological patients. Joint mobilisations help your pet to increase activity and range of motion.

Laser therapy

Laser known as (low-level) light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation is a non-invasive treatment using light absorption to promote physiologic changes within the cells to support healing and to reduce or eliminate pain. This helps with osteoarthritis and joint pain. Laser can also be used to help tissue repair in wound healing.

Hydrotherapy

Water therapy usually takes place in a pool or a water treadmill.

The water is kept at a therapeutic 27oC-29oC. Hydrotherapy helps increase strength, mobility and gait, builds up muscle and is also a good cardiovascular workout. It gives patients relief and allows them to unload the painful joint aiding them to regain normal function.
