Anna and Emili achieve Specialist status

12th August 2021

Anna and Emili Chestergates Veterinary Specialists

This month we celebrate with Anna Tauro and Emili Alcoverro who both received the fantastic news that they passed their European Diploma exams to become EBVS® European Specialists in Veterinary Neurology.

Anna and Emili joined ChesterGates in 2019 and 2020 respectively, both as EBVS board eligible neurologists, working with the neurology team whilst they prepared for their Diploma exams in June 2021.

For Emili, achieving the status of Board-certified Specialist in Veterinary Neurology is a goal he has been pursuing since he was a vet student. He explains:

I left my home in Catalonia to come to Britain to take further steps, which have helped me accomplish this dream. This path would have not been possible without the people with whom I am privileged to be surrounded by. My family, my supervisors, my current and past work colleagues, friends, employers, coaches… They have been the absolute cornerstone of this success. Now I would like to use the knowledge and experience acquired over the last years to help our ChesterGates clients and pets and make their lives better.”

Anna also dreamed of working as a neurologist since vet school. She says:

Neurology is an exciting speciality; it is like doing a jigsaw puzzle which requires patience and persistence. It combines medical and surgical skills, and this is unique in its kind. To pursue my goal, I visited and learned from many veterinary neurologists in UK, USA and Europe whilst working as a GP in United Kingdom.

“Neurology is a competitive residency and to increase my chances to become specialist, I have undertaken two internships and a neurology certificate as well as being involved in research papers (abstracts, papers, publications, etc.).

“My dream could not be fulfilled without people who have supported and believed in me during tough times, and with a special thanks to my residency supervisor who made all this happen. I feel lucky to have joined Chestergates and work in such a lovely environment, with a great team of people who had hugely supported me during my study time.

Sarah Hibbert, Hospital Director at ChesterGates, said “We are so proud of Emili and Anna who have both worked enormously hard to achieve their goals over the last few years. The journey to become a Specialist is long and hard and to achieve this whilst working in practice, with a varied and challenging caseload, giving 100% every day to their patients and clients, is truly outstanding. We could not ask for more!
